IPL
PHOTOREJUVENATION
IPL uses pulses of broad spectrum light energy to clinically reverse signs of aging by altering your skin at the cellular level. IPL treatment has been FDA approved since the 1990’s and is considered one of the most effective non-invasive rejuvenating treatments for aging skin with no downtime.
WHAT IS IPL? IPL photo facials use a broad-spectrum light source that penetrates multiple layers of skin. IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It may also be known under the name BBL, which stands for broad band light. IPL is a little bit different from a laser. Whereas a laser only produces a single wavelength of light, IPL uses a very bright light in all visible wavelengths to effectively address multiple skin concerns with no downtime. IPL helps reduce the signs of aging, removes unwanted hair, reduces acne outbreaks, lightens dark spots, soothes rosacea, and improves the appearance of scars and spider veins.
WHAT CAN IPL TREAT? - Acne - Sun damage - Age spots - Rosacea - Fine lines - Wrinkles - Large pores - Pigmentation - Uneven skin tone - Broken capillaries - Spider veins - Birthmarks - Scars
WHAT CAN IPL TREAT ON THE BODY? As with the face, IPL can help address sun damage, pigmentation issues, cherry angiomas (red spots), and spider veins on the body as well. Areas: - Shoulders - Back - Stomach - Arms - Hands - Legs
HOW DOES PRICING WORK? Pricing is determined by size of the treatment area... small spot, one area and two (or large) areas. Small Spot Treatment: Up to 3 small skin irregularities. Each small irregularity is less than the size of a dime. Examples: Cherry Angiomas Small Sun Spots Broken facial capillaries One Treatment Area Options: - Face (pigmentation, acne, anti-aging, broken capillaries, rosacea) - Neck/Chest - Hands - Shoulders Two (or Large) Treatment Area Options: Face & Neck/Chest Back Stomach Arms Legs Your IPL expert will help determine your treatment area size. Larger areas like back, stomach, arms and legs are considered a large treatment area
HOW MANY SESSIONS OF IPL TREATMENT ARE NEEDED? It may take several sessions to achieve your desired results depending on the type of skin concern and size of the area. We recommend 3-6 IPL treatments performed one month apart initially and then one to two treatments per year thereafter as maintenance. While you should start to see some great results after the first IPL session, the best outcomes occur after several treatments. Keep in mind that significant sun damage will take longer to treat. SPF 30 and higher must be worn daily to prevent recurrence of brown spots and to reduce future sun damage.
HOW DOES IPL WORK? IPL uses light energy and multiple wavelengths to accurately target and remove pigmented or damaged skin cells or hair follicles. Using a handheld device, your IPL professional will target multiple wavelengths of light into the skin. This light heats cells in the skin and breaks them down. The body then removes the damaged tissue naturally.
HOW WILL I LOOK AFTER MY IPL? There is no downtime, although you may be a little red and experience slight stinging after your treatment. Some treatment areas may temporarily appear deeper in color (called peppering) after IPL therapy but this fades after several days. Some areas of hyperpigmentation may peel a few days after a treatment. Large vascular regions, such as spider veins on the legs, will appear darker and will lighten over a period of several weeks.
IPL vs LASER IPL is often compared to a laser treatment but while IPL is similar it does have its differences. Lasers use one light wavelength to target and treat the skin, whereas IPL taps into many wavelengths to address multiple skin concerns. - IPL can treat a wider range of skin conditions than lasers. - IPL handpieces have a larger surface area than most lasers, making it more efficient to treat a broader area of skin. - IPL treatments tend to be less expensive than laser treatments. - IPL recovery is typically faster than laser treatments. - IPL treatments tend to be more affordable than laser treatments. - IPL treatments have lower complication risks because their light is less concentrated. - Laser treatment is usually considered more uncomfortable than IPL treatment since the light in a laser is more concentrated.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PURE SKIN AND MED SPA IPL? Nothing except the cost savings with Pure Skin! Did you know that the average price of one IPL photofacial treatment is $300-$600 in MA? Pure Skin uses an FDA-cleared Zemits device that is commonly used in med spas. MA estheticians with specialized training and state certification can independently operate IPL devices.
