REQUIREMENTS FOR APPRENTICESHIP * Completed AAM or SPCP Accredited 100 Hour Fundamentals Course * Must be 18+ with a valid ID * CPR & First Aid Certification * Bloodborne Pathogen Certification * Letter from PCP confirming apprentice is free from communicable disease. A supervised temporary license will need to be obtained through the Maynard Board of Health. Pure Skin will help facilitate this.
MA BODY ART LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS - Licensing for permanent makeup and body art in Massachusetts is handled locally, not at the state level. - Requirements vary by town. You must contact your local Board of Health for specific licensure details. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (Typical Range) - 100–200 apprentice hours - 25–50 completed procedures - 30 observation hours - Apprenticeships can generally be completed in 12 to 18 months. REQUIRED COURSEWORK - Completed AAM or SPCP-accredited 100-Hour Fundamentals Course - Some towns also require an accredited Anatomy & Physiology course ✅ Portage Learning offers fully online, accredited A&P with no prerequisites REQUIRED BY ALL TOWNS - Must be 18+ with a valid ID - CPR & First Aid Certification - Bloodborne Pathogen Certification - Completed Hepatitis B Vaccination Series or Letter from PCP that practitioner is free from communicable disease.
APPRENTICE PORTAL RESOURCES The portal gives you access to: - Step-by-step guides for setting up your business and getting started professionally - A consult guide for booking and preparing potential models - An online booking portal to schedule, reschedule, or cancel clinic and observation days - Downloadable PDFs of all required model paperwork and forms - A Clinic Day Procedure Form submission portal to log completed procedures and clinical notes - A detailed FAQ section to answer all your apprenticeship-related questions
MODELS FOR SUPERVISED PROCEDURES -Apprentices must provide their own models for all clinic days. - You may charge your models to help offset your clinic day costs. Session Breakdown - Each completed procedure requires 3 hours and counts as one clinic session. - If a model receives two procedures (e.g., brows and lips), that’s two clinic sessions (6 hours total). - Follow-up appointments for each procedure are also considered completed procedures and count as additional clinic sessions.
WHAT DOES A CLINIC DAY LOOK LIKE? Arrival: Apprentice arrives at the start of the session, 15 minutes before the model, for setup, prep, and Q&A. Model arrival: Model should arrive 15 minutes after your start time. Paperwork: - Model must complete all required paperwork before arrival. - Consent form will be signed in person on the day of service. This avoids delays and keeps the appointment on schedule. Procedure: 2.5-hour supervised session with your model. Wrap-up: 15 minutes for checkout, clean-up, and post-session Q&A.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE SOME COMPLETED PROCEDURES WITH ANOTHER ARTIST? That is totally fine. Pure Skin will sign off on all completed procedures completed at our clinic. These can be combined with your prior procedures for licensure application.
