What is IPL?

IPL photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of light to penetrate deep into the skin. Unlike laser treatments that use a single wavelength of light, IPL utilizes a broad spectrum of light wavelengths. This allows it to target various skin concerns simultaneously,

IPL Benefits

+ Non-invasive: Minimal downtime. You can return to work and reapply makeup the same day. + Quick Procedure: Sessions typically last 30-45 minutes, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. + Visible Results: Many patients report noticeable improvements after just one session with optimal results achieved through a series of treatments. + Versatility: IPL can be used on the face, neck, chest, and hands, targeting multiple areas of concern in one treatment.

How to prepare for my IPL

+ Avoid Sun Exposure: Ideally, avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before your session.
+Do Not Use Self-Tanners or Spray Tans: Similar to sun exposure, self-tanners and spray tans can darken the skin, making it more sensitive to IPL treatment. Avoid these products on the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before your session.
+ Avoid All Forms of Hair Removal: Avoid hair removal in the treatment area for at least 2-4 weeks before your IPL session. These hair removal methods can disturb hair follicles and affect the effectiveness of IPL.
+ Do Not Use Any Form of Retinol or AHAs/BHAs: Stop using for at least 1-2 weeks before your IPL treatment. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity and may increase the risk of adverse reactions during IPL.
+ Avoid Chemical Peels and Exfoliating Scrubs: Refrain from undergoing chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or using harsh exfoliating scrubs on the treatment area for at least 1-2 weeks before your IPL session. These treatments can irritate the skin and make it more sensitive to IPL.
+ Do Not Take Photosensitizing Medications: Certain medications can increase sensitivity to light and make you more prone to side effects during IPL treatment. Inform your skincare professional if you are taking medications such as antibiotics, diuretics or anti-inflammatory drugs so they can advise you accordingly.

What to expect during my service

+ Preparation: Your skin care professional will cleanse your skin thoroughly to remove any makeup, sunscreen, or skincare products. A cooling gel twill be applied to the treatment area to enhance comfort and protect the skin during the procedure.
+ Eye Protection: Both you and your skin care professional will wear protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the bright flashes of light emitted by the IPL device.
+ IPL Device Application: The IPL handpiece will be applied to the skin and deliver pulses of broad-spectrum light to the targeted areas. The light is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the skin and hemoglobin (red blood cells) in blood vessels, depending on the target concern.
+ Sensation: You may feel a sensation similar to a light snap or a mild stinging sensation with each pulse of light. Many people find the discomfort minimal and tolerable. If needed, the intensity of the IPL device can be adjusted for comfort.
+ Post-Treatment Care: After completing the IPL treatment, the technician will remove the cooling gel and assess the skin. Your skin may appear slightly red or flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, which is normal and usually subsides within a few hours to a day. For those with heavy hyperpigmentation, “peppering” can occur temporarily. Peppering occurs when the IPL treatment targets and breaks down pigmented lesions in the skin. The light energy from the IPL device is absorbed by melanin, causing them to darken temporarily and lighten over the next few days. + Results and Maintenance: While some improvement may be visible immediately after treatment, optimal results usually require a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. Your skincare professional will provide recommendations for post-treatment care and skincare products to maintain and enhance the results of your IPL photofacial.
+ Follow-up: Depending on your skin's response and the treatment plan discussed during your consultation, you may schedule follow-up sessions to achieve the desired outcome effectively.
